After discovering the hidden rock in the cow’s white line defect, we realized that the injury had been causing discomfort for some time, likely due to dirt and debris entering the compromised hoof wall. Once the area was fully cleaned and disinfected, we noticed slight abscessing, which required careful drainage to release built-up pressure. We applied a hoof bandage with a drawing agent to help extract any remaining infection and monitored the cow for signs of further lameness. Over the next few days, we checked her gait and appetite, both of which improved steadily. Regular hoof checks, a clean, dry environment, and proper trimming going forward are key to preventing this issue from recurring. This case was a reminder of how small, hidden problems like a rock can cause significant pain if not identified early.
